Hollis LeRoy Maurer

Died Friday, May 13, 2011, at home. Hollis Maurer was born October 11, 1920 at home in Allegan, MI, to Ernest and Alma (Weaver) Maurer. He had been employed at Blood Bros, then later at the Mac Simbar in Otsego, and he also farmed. Hollis retired in 1985 and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the "Maurer Pond". Hollis loved being outdoors, hunting, traveling, golfing, and gardening and also enjoyed bowling in the winter. Hollis was a WWII Vet in the US Navy. Surviving are 6 children Karen Golliver, Garth and Sue Maurer, Pam Haines, Kathy and Steve Melvin, Bruce and Jo Maurer, and Diane and Mike Morton all of Allegan, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter, 2 sisters-in-law Martha Maurer of Otsego and Patricia McElwee of Muskegon, MI, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Bea Maurer, a brother Edwin Maurer, granddaughter Melinda Mannon, 2 sons-in-law Emery Haines and Jerry Golliver. A Heart of Gold stopped beating, two shinning eyes at rest. God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best. A graveside service will be held June 3rd 2011 1 pm at Hudson Corners Cemetery and a celebration of life memorial will be held August 6, 2011 12 pm at the "Maurer Pond". Memorial contributions can be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice.
