Hubert "Herb" Henry Campbell, age 95, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication to his family and community. Born on February 2, 1929, in Linton, Indiana, Hubert was the son of Cortlon "Cortland" and Mary Campbell. After the passing of his mother, he was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Max and Mary Boerner, in Rose City, Michigan, from the age of four.
Hubert was one of four siblings, growing up alongside his brother Harold Campbell. His twin sisters Ellen (Robert) Koch and Helen (Robert) Breedland were raised in Indiana. In 1946, he proudly joined the U.S. military, serving until his honorable discharge in 1948. Upon returning home, Hubert began his career at Saginaw Steering Gear and married his first wife, Joyce Osborn, in 1951. Together, they had two children, Diana (Patrick) Williams and Dean (Linda) Campbell.
In 1959 he married the love of his life Joyce (Martindale) Campbell. She sadly passed away in 1990 leaving a lasting impact on Hubert's life.
In 1968, Hubert started his own business H. H. Campbell Fuel Oil Co. For over two decades, he operated as a one-man team, delivering home heating fuel to Saginaw residents from 1968 to 1990. Known for his compassion and generosity, Hubert was always willing to help others, often delivering fuel in the middle of the night to ensure no one went without heat.
That same year, he made a decision that would become the highlight of his family's life-purchasing a cottage in Northern Michigan. This beloved retreat became a gathering place for laughter, joy, and family memories that will last for generations. After the passing of his second wife, Joyce (Martindale) Campbell, with whom he had one daughter, Linda (Campbell) Husen, The family built a new home on the cherished property, which continues to be a sanctuary for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 2002, Hubert moved to Vicksburg, Michigan, to be closer to his family, where he continued to share lessons of kindness, humility, and grace through his actions and quiet demeanor. His gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Hubert is preceded in death by his father Cortlon Campbell, his beloved grandparents Max and Mary Boerner, his wife Joyce (Martindale) Campbell, his son-in-law KayDon Husen Jr, and his grandchild Troy Campbell.
He is survived by his loving children: Diana (Patrick) Williams, Dean (Linda) Campbell, and Linda (Campbell) Husen. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Brandon Husen, Courtney (Ryan) Martin, Morgan Husen, Rachelle Skrzysinski, Edward Skrzysinski, and Ralph Sharon, as well as nine treasured great-grandchildren. Hubert also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever remember his love and dedication.
A private celebration of Hubert's life will be held in the future, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the incredible impact he had on their lives.
