With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ira William (Bill) Austin Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Bill departed from this world on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in Vicksburg, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 25, 1944, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Bill found his lifelong companion in Vicki Lee Hull, whom he married on June 4, 1988, in Vicksburg, Michigan. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership.
His legacy lives on through his children: Clifford (Diane) Austin, Penny (Chad) Harmon, Tammy (Summertime) Austin, Pamela (Andy) Averill, and Kim (Thomas) Pierman, as well as his family adopted son, Glen Moman. Bill cherished his role as a father and was a guiding light in the lives of his children. His love extended to multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ira William Austin Sr. and Vesta Ione Smith, and his siblings Shirley Gibson, Jerry Austin, and Martha Middleton. He is survived by his loving siblings Dorothy Kollin, Art (Brenda) Austin, Jane (Gerald) Curtis, and Robert Austin.
Throughout his life, Bill was deeply involved in various organizations and pursuits that brought him joy and fulfillment. Bill and Vicki are the owners of the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry, where his passion for horses flourished. Bill also served with honor in the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Mounted Division and was a longstanding member of the Trowel Trades Union.
His hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. Bill found solace and excitement in camping with horses, participating in events like the Michigan Bicentennial Wagon Train, and attending horse sales across the nation. He enjoyed traveling across the country, especially to the western states, and had a keen interest in watching boxing and horse racing. He owned and cared for horses his entire life and passed his knowledge and love down through the generations of his family. Bill was a true cowboy.
Bill Austin will be remembered for his genuine kindness, his unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will not be any public services at this time.
