As a child he processed his own movie film, as a young man he invented the "Jim Jam", a patented tool used to check electrical current. He attended the University of Detroit on the GI bill and obtained his law degree from the Detroit College of Law. His court decisions were rarely overturned on appeal and studied by law students at the University of Michigan.
