James Dale Hamilton

James (Jim or POPO) D. Hamilton Sr, of Battle Creek passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the age of 82. James was born on March 30, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Sol & Douglas (Yarbrough) Hamilton. POPO left the world and is now watching his grandchildren on a baseball or track field, giving words of encouragement as a proud grandfather. We also know he is eagerly waiting for “the next year of the Tigers, or Lions...” and sneaking in a round of golf on a beautiful summer day. Jim graduated from Wichita State University with an Engineering degree. While at Wichita he met and married the love of his life, Donna. He and Donna were married for 61 years. The couple later moved to Evansville, Indiana and then to Battle Creek, Michigan. Jim started his career at Johnson & Johnson, and later worked for General Foods (Post Cereals) where he retired as a manager in 1996. Jim was a devoted husband and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, particularly books about U.S. history, and he liked to garden. He leaves behind his loving wife Donna; three children; seven grandchildren: Brandon, Adam, James Dale III, Heather, Libby, Erin, and Aaron; two great grandchildren: Cayden and Easton; siblings: Eileen and Judy, brothers-in-law: Tim Burns and Dean Corrin; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Sol and Douglas and by his sister: Elene. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Grace Hospice: The staff are truly compassionate loving heroes. Please take time to sign his guestbook by lighting a candle and/or sharing a memory with his family. The family is being assisted by Avink Funeral Home & Cremation Society, 129 S. Grand, Schoolcraft, MI 49087 (269) 679-5622.
