James Leslie Parker of Schoolcraft, MI, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the age of 72. He was born on August 6, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Chester and Minniebelle (Chapman) Parker.
On September 5, 1970, James married the love of his life, Jerrita Rice Parker. Together they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories and unwavering devotion.
James dedicated 35 years of service as a proud union pipe fitter before retiring in 2010. His strong work ethic and craftsmanship were evident in all he did.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and his brothers, Thomas Parker and Edwin Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Jerrita Parker; his daughter Leslie Parker Hickey and her husband Jeremy; his son Andrew James Parker and his wife Kaitlin; his grandchildren James, Jackson, and Savanna; his brother Robert Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. He found joy in the simple pleasures of nature, whether it was tinkering around in his barn, cutting wood, or caring for his beloved hobby farm and livestock. His favorite retreat was The 35 Mile club cabin in the Upper Peninsula, where he made countless memories surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness.
Above all, James’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with them, sharing stories, laughter, and the lessons of life.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, James's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers memorials made in James’s memory may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft. Envelopes will be available at the service.
In accordance with the family’s wishes cremation has taken place and James will be laid to rest at Schoolcraft Cemetery during a private committal service. A public memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft, 224 E Cass St, Schoolcraft, MI 49087 on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. a time of visiting will be held following the service.
