Jean Helen Scott
November 24, 1948 – November 8, 2024
Jean H. Scott, age 75, of Galesburg, Michigan, passed away on November 8, 2024, at Bronson Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 24, 1948, in Hastings, Michigan, to Edgar Raymond and Jessie (Patten) Wall.
A proud graduate of Maple Valley High School in 1966, Jean continued her education through various college courses. She first married Zachary Rhodes, with whom she had two daughters, Kelly and Tracy. Later, Jean found deep love and partnership with Randolph Scott, whom she married on September 21, 1973. Together, they shared a devoted marriage of 51 years and were blessed with a son, BenHanan.
Jean's career was marked by a strong work ethic, culminating in her retirement from Borgess ProMed. Throughout her life, she was an integral part of a musical family, and her love for singing was a source of joy to all who knew her. Beginning her musical journey at the age of three, Jean's voice graced numerous church choirs, community groups, and performances, including appearances on the Rem Wall Show and later with the New Creation group.
Outside of her work and musical talents, Jean cherished the simple joys of life. She loved to dance with her husband, enjoy movies with her family, and unwind at the beach. A voracious reader, she could often finish a book in a single day. Her sense of humor, famously known as the "Wall sense of humor," could bring people to tears with laughter, and she always knew how to lift the spirits of those she encountered. A generous and compassionate soul, Jean was always quick to help others in need.
Jean's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life. Her relationship with the Lord was something she held dear, and she lived out her faith with grace, sharing the love of Christ with her children, grandchildren, and all who were close to her. Family was her greatest joy, second only to her faith. Jean was deeply committed to creating lasting memories with her loved ones, and in her final months, she was able to check off a bucket list cruise, something she had long dreamed of.
In addition to her husband Randy, Jean is survived by her daughters, Kelly McMeekan and Tracy Fontaine; son, BenHanan Scott; grandchildren, Collin McMeekan and Kiah McMeekan; her brother, Donald (Donna) Wall; sisters, Barbara Kilbourn, Joyce (Joe) Veich, and Kathleen (Dan) Allen; sister-in-law, Dale Wall; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary; and her brother, William.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on November 23, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Portage, 1133 E. Centre Ave., Portage, MI, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of faith, love, laughter, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
