Jean Sehy, 84, passed away at her home in Schoolcraft, MI on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with family by her side. Jean was born on December 22, 1939, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Noel and Josephine McNett. She was the fifth born of nine children in her family.
Jean married her husband of 57 years, William (Bill) Sehy, on January 20, 1967. Together, they lovingly raised their three daughters - Peggy, Julie and Brenda - to be strong women.
Jean was a dedicated employee at Upjohn (later Pharmacia), in Kalamazoo, MI throughout her life. One of the manufacturing facility's "call-in girls,"as they were known, she made lifelong friendships during her time there, which she continued to cherish through regular lunches and get-togethers well into her retirement.
Jean was an active member of the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church throughout her life, attending weekly Bible study groups and volunteering to support church initiatives.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Jean loved her family above all else. She loved planning events that brought people together, such as bunco or card game parties, pumpkin carvings, or reunions. She often traveled to see family both near and far, and never forgot to recognize a birthday or special occasion with a thoughtful card or phone call.
Always generous and thoughtful, Jean enjoyed hobbies that she could use to give back to others. She loved to crochet and her talent always had her working on a blanket, scarf, hat or slippers to gift to someone. She loved to bake and bring buckets of "monster cookies" to those lucky enough to receive them. She canned jams, jellies and salsa each year, which she shared widely with family and friends. A prolific Christmas shopper, she typically finished her shopping by July, and dedicated an entire room of her house to wrapping gifts! As someone who knew firsthand just how precious memories were, she became an avid picture-taker, always taking time to send photos or picture books to family and friends of their memories together. She opened her home to many people throughout her life, providing stability and structure through whatever storm they were weathering.
Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, David Franklin Chapman, her baby, David Lee Chapman, her parents, and siblings, Kenneth, William, Nancy, June and Terry. She is survived by a lot of family, including: her loving husband William (Bill) Sehy; her three daughters, Peggy Burke, Julie Wikel (Kim), and Brenda Sehy; grandchildren Angie (Mike), Tim, Sayward, Kelli (Taylor), Connor (Hollis), Christopher, Allison, Kevin, Destiny, Dylan (Olivia), Maddie, and Jacob (Rebecca); great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ryan; siblings, Joyce, Carl, and Jim and many, many more. She was and is loved deeply and will be missed dearly.
The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024 and Jean's Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Both will be held at Schoolcraft United Methodist Church, 342 N. Grand St., Schoolcraft, Michigan 49087. She will be laid to rest at Schoolcraft Cemetery during a private committal ceremony.
Memorial donations in Jean's name can be made to the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available during the services.
