Jerry Martin Springer, of Portage, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the age of 86. Jerry was born in Dowagiac, MI, on November 13, 1937, to Clarence and Elizabeth Springer. He lived a life of service, love, and dedication, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Army, working as a crew chief on an H34 helicopter during his station in Verdun, France. His time in the Army exemplified his lifelong commitment to hard work and integrity. After his service, Jerry went on to build a successful 36-and-a-half-year career at General Motors as a Millwright.
Jerry was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth Watson, for 43 wonderful years before her passing. Together, they raised a beautiful family. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Scott) Uildriks, and his beloved grandchildren, Brandon Uildriks, Justin Uildriks, and Chelsea Uildriks, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Les Springer and Mary Ann Emmons Stroup, as well as his niece, Susan (Steve) Windsor, and nephews, Eugene Springer, Terry (Kay) McCormack, and Joseph McCormack. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Botts, and his nephews, George Sweeny and Glenn Emmons. He was a proud great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, who were the light of his later years.
Above all, Jerry’s greatest accomplishment was being a faithful husband and loving father. His family was his world, and his devotion to them will forever be remembered. Jerry’s gentle spirit, unwavering commitment to his loved ones, and his life of service leave behind a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the lives of his family and friends.
In accordance with the family’s wishes there will be a graveside service on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park South Chapel, 3941 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008 at 12:00 noon with the United States Army providing military honors. Jerry will be laid to rest following the service.
