Joan Edwards

Joan Louise Edwards, age 74, of Schoolcraft, passed away on February 25, 2021. Joan was born on April 1, 1946 to Ord Cox and Joyce Flossie (Drake) Edwards. Joan was the youngest of three children. She leaves a sister Honey Joyce Handy; a nephew, Mike Axtell; a niece, Debbie Gillaspie; and nephews, Brady and Cody Gillaspie. A brother Ord Lee Edwards passed away in 1970. Joan’s parents were farmers in the Schoolcraft area. She graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1964. Joan graduated from Western Michigan University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in education. Joan retired from Three Rivers Schools after 31 years in the Special Education Department. In 1999 she moved into the village of Schoolcraft into the home where her grandparents Albert and Ella Mae (Cox) Edwards had lived for many years after farming in the area and homesteading out west in the Montana area. Joan loved to teach and also loved the cats that she always had in her life. At Joan’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
