Joan Bennett Mitchell

Mitchell, Joan Bennett (Nelson) Passed away suddenly at Bronson Methodist hospital today Thursday September 29, 2011. Joan was born May 2, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of William R. & Viella (Ewing) Bennett and lived in Kalamazoo for many years. Joan retired from The Upjohn / Pharmacia Company after 22 years. She is survived by her husband Carl whom she married December 28,1991. Carl and Joan first met as school friends and didn't meet again for almost 50 years. They shared 20 happy years together spending their years at their home in the woods on a lake near Vicksburg. Also surviving are Kathy (Nelson) Buckhout of Portage and her sons, Jeff (Beth) and Kevin (Terri Roberson) Buckhout, both of Kalamazoo, Joel B. Nelson (Darla) and their children Samuel and Jessica of Vicksburg, Christopher B. Nelson (Sharon) of Vicksburg and their sons, Christopher Joel, Benjamin (Kim) and Nathan Hamilton. She also leaves great-grandsons: Kevin R, Kyle, Joshua and Christian Buckhout and Great-great grandson Gavin. She leaves a step-daughter, Dianna Hoffman of Battle Creek, Michigan and a step-son, Dennis G. Mitchell (Teresa) of Eaton Rapids, Michigan and their children Rebecca and Jimmy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William C Bennett and Joseph R. Bennett, and her late-husband Joel C. Nelson, the father of her children: Kathy, Joel and Chris. She leaves her loving Westie "Skye" in the good care of her husband, Carl. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Internment will take place at Cleon Cemetery near Copemish, Michigan where she will be the fourth generation to make this her resting place. Friends may call on the family at Main Street Pub 208 Prairie in Vicksburg from 2:00-5:00 p.m on Sunday October 2, 2011.
