Joan was loving, caring and always put other’s needs before her own.
Joan (Walsh) Mroczek was born February 6, 1933 and took her last breath peacefully at home on November 22, 2017, just 2 days after Walter, her husband of 61 years passed away.
Joan was born in Chicago where she later graduated college and became a school teacher. While vacationing at Gravel Lake she met her future husband Walter. When she offered to help pick asparagus they knew they were a good match.
Walter & Joan were married on November 3, 1956. Joan continued teaching in Lawton until they started a family. Joan loved and devoted her life to raising their 6 children in addition to managing and working the farm. As grandchildren started arriving, Joan loved them dearly and she was a very influential part of their lives.
When most people were thinking about retiring, Joan and Walt built and ran The Mroczek Inn in Paw Paw. While managing The Inn she made many people feel special with the attention she gave them.
Joan’s retirement years were spent on the property that Walter created for them and their family on Goff Lake in Marcellus. She enjoyed getting together with family, walking around the lake with her dogs and praying to God.
Joan will be loved and missed by many and always remembered as someone exceptional by her children, Walter II, Sandie, Laura (Rodney) Witten, William, Bob and Raymond (Cynthia). Grandchildren; Christy, Cara, Walter III, Taylor, Heather, Stacey, Patricia, Rodney II, Bradley, Jacob, and Nicholas. Great-Grandchildren; Lena, Remy, Boden, Walker, Waverly, Auden, Hunter and Benjamin.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcomed to join a celebration of the lives of Joan and Walter Mroczek at the Decatur V.F.W. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 1 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Donor’s Choice.
