Keaveny, Joyce Elizabeth of Kalamazoo passed away Thursday morning, January 18, 2018. She was born May 6, 1938 in Hartford Connecticut the daughter of the late Edward and Josephine (Juda) Malin. Joyce grew up in Rocky Hill Connecticut and attended the University of Connecticut where she received a BA in Medicine. Joyce also studied architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. She worked for four decades in the Kalamazoo area as a medical technician, including local hospitals as well as the Sindecuse Health Center at Western Michigan University and the Westside Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Richard Keaveny, a retired professor from the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University and her son Sean Keaveny of Kalamazoo. She is also survived by a sister Judy and her spouse David Neidel of Savannah Georgia, as well as in-laws John and Virginia Keaveny of Charleston Rhode Island and Caroline Keaveny of Wethersfield Connecticut. Joyce is also survived by a several nephews and nieces.
Joyce loved to travel and was also an avid gardener completing The Master Gardener Program at Michigan State University. In lieu of a funeral the family is planning a celebration of her life at her home 2708 Mockingbird Drive, Kalamazoo on what would have been her eightieth birthday, May 6th from 2pm to 5pm..
Memorial donations may be made to the " Keaveny Family Art History Student Travel Award" at Western Michigan University. This fund supports travel expenses of Frostic School of Art students wishing to enhance their research through travel.
Donors should make checks payable to "Western Michigan University Foundation" and include "Keaveny Family Art History Student Travel Award" on the memo line.
