Joyce M. Snyder, 96, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Joyce was born on May 21, 1926 in West Bend, WI to Albert and Elizabeth(Kremsreiter) Nehring. After graduating West Bend High School in 1944, Joyce enrolled at Loyola University School of Nursing in Chicago. There she met Robert C. Snyder and they married in 1949. They relocated to Kalamazoo, MI and raised six children.
Joyce was known as a wonderful cook and baker and her children all have special memories of her homemade cakes and cookies at birthdays and holidays. Her stollen and jam filled yeast rolls were unsurpassed, even winning awards in the local newspaper.
Joyce had a beautiful smile and was full of charm. She was a lady through and through. Fun-loving and full of life, she loved to dance and enjoyed all kinds of music. One of her favorite songs was "Me and Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin and she often said she wanted that song played at her funeral.
Joyce also loved spending her summers at her little cottage in St Germain, Wisconsin. There she tended to her many flowers and brought joy not only to her neighbors, but to the many hummingbirds who came to visit them. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her...
She is survived by her six children; Robert(Judi), Thomas, Carol(Brad), Karen(Robert) Kipp, James(Sharon), and Suzanne(Daniel) Miller and grandchildren, Chad Cook and Scott Bryant. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert.
At her request, there will be no funeral service but the family will be having a private ceremony. She will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Centrica Care for their wonderful care of our mother and all their support to our family.
