Judith A. Preston

Judith A. Preston, of Schoolcraft, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the age of 82. Judy was born July 18, 1941, in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Norman and Wilma (Solomon) Drake. 

She graduated from Portage High School with the class of 1959. When Judith was young, she loved to go to Long Lake Roller Rink and roller skate with her sisters. She also enjoyed swimming in Long Lake with the neighborhood kids. 

In 1960, her beloved son, David, was born. Judith worked as a secretary with Drake’s Fuel Service for over 30 years. 

In Judith’s spare time she enjoyed making quilts and crocheting. She also loved the outdoors, especially working in her garden or yard. She faithfully attended Cherry Creek Community Church with friends and family. Judith’s family will remember her as a kind, loving, and thoughtful woman who loved the Lord.

Juith is survived by her daughter-in law Maxine Haywood; four grandchildren, David Haywood II, Jennifer Caswell, Lauren Peary, Cindi Tanner; and nine great grandchildren with another one on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Norman (Robbi) Drake, Peggy (Mike) Shaw, and Robert (Joletta) Drake; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her son David Haywood; her husbands’ Roland Haywood and Barry Preston; her sisters Sheila Thompson and Nancy Smith; and her parents Norman and Wilma Drake.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Judith’s life at Cherry Creek Community Church, 10641 Shaver Rd, Portage, MI 49024, on August 20, 2023, beginning at 3:00pm with Pastor Ryan Doyle officiating.

Memorials made in Judith’s memory may be directed to the Bronson Cancer Center, 805 John St, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
