Katherine Ann McLain

Age 84, passed away on February 21, 2021 under the care of Southwest Michigan Hospice at Vineyard Assisted Living in Texas Corners, MI. She was born on January 7, 1937 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Katherine was the daughter of Cornelius and Catherine Kramer. After graduating from Kalamazoo Christian High School, Katherine worked for Gilmore’s Department Store in downtown Kalamazoo. She married Bruce McLain, sharing 49 years together until his death in 2009. Katherine worked as a playground supervisor at Portage Central Elementary, a clerk at Hoffman’s Party Store, retail sales at Gilmores in Southland Mall, and finally in the catering and food service department at Western Michigan University. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Adrian Kramer, Cornelia (Corky) Kramer Linn, Eugene Kramer, Donald Kramer, her niece Sarah, nephew, Douglas Kramer, and baby girl twins. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Sheila (Scott) Courtney, granddaughters Alexis (Zachary) Siple, and Kylie Courtney, brother Jack (Joyce) Kramer, sister-in-law, Beverly Kramer and nieces and nephews. According to her wishes, cremation will take place and a family gathering in her memory will take place at Fort Custer in the Spring where she will be laid to rest with her husband Bruce Wayne McLain. While at Katherine's tribute please take a moment to light a candle and share a memory with the family. Katherine's family is being assisted by Avink Funeral Home and Cremation Society.
