After a sudden and all too swift battle with cancer, Kathi Maher passed away peacefully August 31, 2020 at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo. Born March 9, 1960 to parents Ed and Barbara Maher. She was a graduate of Portage Central High School (‘79).
Kathi’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was completely devoted and blessed to see them grow into the beautiful people they are today as part of her proud legacy. Kathi had a contagious personality and an innate ability to connect with anyone. She had intense compassion for the people around her and loved others unconditionally. Her cheerful disposition put everyone around her at ease. Her laughter was distinct and recognizable, full of joy and always attracted others to join in. She loved laughing and making those around her laugh. She also loved providing acts of kindness to her family, friends, and neighbors and found that most fulfilling. She brightened so many lives and is deeply missed.
She is survived by her brother, Ed (Jody) Maher, daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Cardosa, son, Stephen (Meagan) Irmen and grandchildren Ethan & Elliana Cardosa and Sophie, Henslee & Jamison Irmen. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends that were touched by Kathi’s life. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Bobbi Stickley. Bobbi was taken too soon as well by this terrible disease and is now reunited with Kathi. One of the ultimate rewards for both of them.
A private celebration of life and burial is scheduled in September. The family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on September 9, 2020 beginning at 4pm at the Texas Township Pavilion. To make a lasting gift in Kathi’s memory, please consider a donation to Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo.
