Kathryn "Sarge" Welcher

Kathryn “Kate” Welcher, of Plainwell, MI passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the age of 81. She was born on August 22, 1941, to Paul and Barbara (Nyberg) Welcher. Kathryn served her country as a medical nurse in the US Army. Kate loved to read, watch gameshows and old westerns. She always loved to garden. She dedicated much of her life to showing and caring for dogs of multiple breeds. Kate will be remembered as the neighborhood mom. Kate also enjoyed whooping anyone at any game she played, especially trivial pursuit. She will also be remembered as being determined, putting 100% into everything she did especially nature.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Harold (Julie) Brantley and Kimberly Cooper; grandchildren, Alyssa (Ryan) Cieslak, James Brantley; a great grandson, Mr.Kelby. 3 stepdaughters Debbie Jimmie and Annah all from Florida and numerous Nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on October 1, 2022, from 2-4 pm at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 120 S. Woodhams, Plainwell, MI 49080 with graveside services to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell at 4:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior, Bronson Cancer Center, and Kalamazoo County Animal Project.
