Died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sister,Darlene Cablish of Franklin, Ohio and brother Douglas (Robin) Ross of Oxford, Ohio . Larry was born October 27, 1942 in Hamilton, Ohio to Karl and Alice Ross. Larry moved to Kalamazoo in 1999 after retiring from Grand Rapids Public Schools where he worked as a social worker. Larry attended Miami University, University of Dayton where he received a BA degree and Wayne State University where he received a masters degree in social work. Since retirement, Larry has been a volunteer for the American Red Cross as a mental health worker both in the national disaster relief program and locally to aid families struck by personal disasters such as house fires. He also was on the team of Red Cross van drivers who provide transportation for veterans going to the VA hospital in Battle Creek. Larry was co-president of the Oakland Drive/Winchell Avenue neighborhood association for 5 years. Other community activities have involved a position on the advisory board of the Parks and Recreation Department. Larry's favorite personal project has been the restoration of his 1960 Porsche and his membership in the Southwest Michigan Porsche Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross and designated" in memory of Larry Ross" and mailed to 5640 Venture Court, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 321 W. South Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
