Laura LaRoy

Laura Louise LaRoy (Beach), 91, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 20, 1932, the daughter of Harold Elmer and Rosa Elizabeth Beach.

Laura was united in marriage to Kenneth Charles Tassell on February 11, 1950.  Together they had six children. They worked hard and had a lot of fun with family and friends at their farm in Fulton MI.  Unfortunately, Kenny passed away at the early age of 36.

After the kids were raised, Laura finished high school so she could get a job as a clerk to the Secretary of State.  She also taught herself how to type. She worked at the Secretary of State in Portage, MI for several years until she retired.

Laura married James P. LaRoy on July 2, 1981.  She enjoyed his sense of humor, and they had several friends throughout the years.  After they both retired, they lived in a RV for eight years and traveled around the U.S. sometimes with other RV friends. They eventually moved to Zephyrhills Florida. 

Laura liked to keep busy and had many hobbies including drawing and painting, reading, bowling, bingo, sewing, crocheting, needle point, puzzles etc. She had a good sense of humor and loved to be with friends and family.

She is Survived by her children; Patricia (Art) Moelaart, Kenneth (Laura)Tassell, Joan (Brent) Henderson and Janet (Steve) Kline; her step-daughter, Melissa VanDerBos; her siblings; Beverly Young, Karen Beach, Shelby Ashbrook, Dale (Greta) Beach, Judy Granado and several grand-children and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceded her in death are her first husband; Kenneth Charles Tassell; her husband, James LaRoy; sons; Larry Tassell and Russell Tassell, and her parents; Rosa Elizabeth and Harold Elmer Beach. A service with family and friends will be held later in the spring of 2024.
