Lee Roy Cropsey
Lee Roy Cropsey, age 90, of Marcellus, MI, passed away Friday evening, August 29, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI.
He was born May 4, 1924, in Wakelee, MI the son of Sherman Dewey and Bessie Irene (Griffis) Cropsey. On April 9, 1950, in Edwards Corners Bible Church, Marcellus, MI, he married Evelyn R. Ritter who preceded him in death in 2004.
Lee was a 1942 Marcellus High School graduate. He was accepted into the University of Michigan but due to the war he was unable to attend. He was an Army WWII veteran serving in Japan. He lived 81 years on his family farm and farmed the land all his life. He was also a welder. Lee was the Penn Township Treasurer for over 32 years from the 1960s to the early 1990s. He was a member of the Wakelee United Methodist Church and the Wakelee Woodcutters and was very involved with the children’s programs there and was involved with the Cass County Council on Aging. He enjoyed fishing and was a huge Detroit Tigers fan but enjoyed all the Detroit teams as well.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Cropsey of Ann Arbor, MI, and Diane Cropsey Ghastin of Marcellus; two sons, Daniel Lee (Susan) Cropsey of White Pigeon, MI, and Samuel LeRoy (Tracy) Cropsey of Marcellus; one sister, Leta Ritter of Cassopolis, MI; four grandchildren, Brandon Lee and Brett Arthur Cropsey, Taylor James and Emily Anne Ghastin; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Lee, Sarah, Miranda, Brennan and Bryce Cropsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 2, 2014, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, Marcellus.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, in the funeral home with Pastor John Messner of the Wakelee United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.
