Lois V Fredericks completed her "Long Goodbye" on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
Lo-E, as she was known later, was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan in December 1933. She was proud to tell people that she was the "Girl from Kalamazoo". Even as she struggled the last few years in various stages of Alzheimer's, the song by the same name would often bring a smile to her face, even in her deepest sleep.
Prior to moving to Myrtle Beach, SC to join her daughter, she spent her entire life in Michigan. Growing up in Oakwood, graduating High School at the original Kalamazoo Central and eventually moving to Vicksburg. She wore many hats throughout her working life, from a volunteer at a local hospital, working as a waitress at Bob Evans and Airway Lanes and finally at the former Triple S in Vicksburg.
Lo-E was the daughter of Eva and Richard Drake. She is survived by her son, Bruce Fredericks of Vicksburg, MI, her daughter, Vickie Fredericks of Myrtle Beach, SC, her "4-legged" grandchildren, many nieces and nephews across the US and Australia that she dearly loved, and the young people that became like her own children, Dawn, Dennis. Debbie D. and Debbie.
Special appreciation to the Hospice staff, Nurses (Debra, Kelle and Ms. Willie), Aides (Debbie and so many others), Chaplin John and Social Worker Ginger who started this journey with her a year ago, the Nail Salon (treated her like a Queen) and Bob Evans staff that shared hugs and smiles that brought her such Joy.
She remembered all of you to some degree, right up to the last days.
Myrtle Beach friends will gather informally on Monday, February 18, 2013 in Murrells Inlet. Lo-E will be brought home to Kalamazoo in May of this year. A final date and location will be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate your time or money to the Alzheimer's Association or an Elder related charity of your choice. And of course, hugs all around.
