Lois Smith

Lois E. Smith, 90, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, at Park Village Pines, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born on June 30, 1934, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Johanna and Robert, Lois graduated from State High School in 1952. Following graduation, she began her career at Gilmore's in bookkeeping. After leaving Gilmore's, she joined Upjohn's in fluid packaging before dedicating her time to caring for her mother.

Lois married Lawrence in 1963, and together they welcomed three children: Kathy (Tim), Nancy (Dan), and Daniel. Lois was a talented and creative woman who enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She found great joy intending to her garden, where she cultivated beautiful flowers. In her leisure time, she also enjoyed the relaxing and rewarding pastime of crocheting. Lois was known for her love of baking, especially her delicious cookies, which she delighted in sharing with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a strong Christian and found solace in studying the Bible. 

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; two brothers: Herbert and Robert; two sons: Jack and Timothy as well as a daughter-in-law Nancy. 

Lois is survived by her children: Kathy, Nancy, and Daniel; grandchildren: Joshua, Sarah, Jeffery, Benjamin, Alicia, Ethan, Daniel, Abigale, Natalie, Christopher, David, and Lauren; and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 11:00 at Portage South Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a celebration of life will be held at Friendship Wesleyan Church at 1285 102nd Ave, Plainwell, MI 49080 beginning at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Village Pines Benevolent Fund (www.parkvillagepines.org) at 2920 Crystal Lane, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.

Lois will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
