Louise Griggs

Louise Griggs

Louise Mae Griggs (Horn) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 2, 2024. A lifelong resident of southwest Michigan, Louise was born and raised in Schoolcraft and graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1956.

She met the love of her life, Russell P. Griggs, through her father’s home-heating oil delivery business. Russ began as an employee and soon became family when they married in 1959. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and devotion, raising three children: Vickie Rafferty-Polk, Karen (Todd) Casanto, and Randy (Marsha) Griggs.

Louise found her true calling in running an at-home daycare, lovingly earning the nickname “Grandma Daycare” from the countless children she cared for and nurtured over the years. Her home was a place of warmth and joy, filled with the sound of children's laughter, the aroma of fresh-baked cookies, and the hum of her knitting needles. She delighted in simple pleasures—playing bingo, baking sweet treats with her “kids” (whoever happened to stop by), and sharing heartfelt moments over tea and conversation.

Despite battling mobility challenges for many years and enduring multiple surgeries, Louise’s spirit remained unshaken. She greeted everyone with a radiant smile and an open heart, embodying resilience and kindness. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, when her home brimmed with the love and laughter of her children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories around the tree.

Louise is survived by a loving family, her family will honor her life with a private celebration early next year.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Louise’s memory are encouraged to make contributions to Park Village Pines, 2920 Crystal Ln., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, ensuring her legacy of care and compassion lives on.
