Lyola Wava Wilson passed away April 20, 2017, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Lyola was born in Chicago, Illinois, November 11, 1916 to George Washington Austin and Myrtle Edna Baxter Austin. At about 2 years of age, the family, along with her maternal grandparents and maternal aunt, moved to a farm in Paw Paw, Michigan.
In 1936 Lyola had a blind date with Loyd W. Wilson of Kalamazoo. On May 1, 1937 they were united in marriage and made their home in Kalamazoo. Two daughters were born from that marriage, lasting a month shy of 63 years. Loyd preceded her in death on April 7, 2000.
She is survived by her daughters; Nancy C. House (John) and Cheryl A. Derrick (Dón)
Grandchildren: John House, David Derrick (Kimberly), Matthew Derrick (Shelly) and great grandchildren; Kelsey, Jeremy, Nathan, Dillon, Jenna Michelle and Bailey Ann.
One great grandchild, Leeland.
One nephew and two nieces; James Rock (Gayle), Starlet Sanneman, and Sheri Macomber (Conn).
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Newell B. Austin, and sister Marian Rock.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
She resided the past three years at Comforts of Home in Kalamazoo, with Wini Heighton, adult foster care.
She had great genetics for longevity, her mother lived to be almost 98 and she lived to be 100 - with several serious health obstacles from the time she was young.
