Margaret Joyce Schuring

Schuring, Margaret Joyce 12/15/1945 - 2/4/2015 Portage, MI On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Margaret Joyce Schuring passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Center from a battle with cancer. She was born in Kalamazoo to Joyce and Ronald Nelthorpe on December 15, 1945. Ronald Nelthorpe preceded her in death in 1953. Joyce married Garrett Schuring, who then adopted Margaret and her brother James. She was a graduate of Portage Central High School and attended WMU. Mar loved to travel, read and meet unique and interesting people. After traveling abroad and stateside, she settled in Anchorage, Alaska, where she lived and worked most of her adult life. Upon retirement, Mar moved back to Portage to be close to her brothers. Her family and friends will remember Mar for her sharp and quick wit, her love of the outdoors and definitive opinions! Mar was also preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Garrett and her brother Timothy A. Schuring. She is survived by two brothers, James M. (Carol Gray) and Paul W. Schuring of Portage, son Matthew DeWaard (Geri) and grandchildren Nathaniel, Kelsi and Kenzi of Tempe, AZ, two nephews, Michael B. (Tanya) Schuring of Kalamazoo and David A. Schuring of Portage, great nephew Garrett R. Schuring of Gobles, niece Emilie (Eric) Murphy and great niece Camila of Portage, and her beloved dog Hope. Margaret was cremated (Avink Funeral Home) and will be buried with her parents, Joyce and Garrett, at Virgo Cemetery in Texas Township at a graveside memorial to be held this spring or summer.
