Margarete Louise Kern Monette passed away early Monday morning February 9th, 2015. She was born June 18, 1922 in Zurich, Switzerland, the daughter of John A. and Alwina Kern (Stricker).
On February 9, 1944, Margarete was married to Gib Monette of Chatfield, Minnesota. Gib was a sergeant in the U.S. Army who served honorably in the second world war, earning a Bronze Star for valor in combat. Gib preceded Margarete in death on September 5, 1964. After Gib's death Margarete attended Western Michigan University, receiving her teaching certificate. The taught humanities and art at Vicksburg High School and Middle School for 17 years until her retirement at age 62.
Surviving Margarete are her four children, Marguerite Louise (Jay) Hammond, Doris (John) Holt, Carrie Monette and David Monette. Margarete is also survived by three Grandchildren, Heather Louise Casarez, John (Anne) Baker and Michael Howard. She is survived by two great grandchildren, Kim Louise Casarez and Sydney Baker. Also surviving are cousins Jurg, Rita and Olivia Spuhler.
Cremation has taken place. Margarete asked that no funeral or memorial service be held.
