Mark Daniel Weirick

Mark Daniel Weirick passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 8th at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan after suffering a brain aneurysm. He was surrounded by his family when he passed. He was born on May 29th, 1961 in Kalamazoo to Daniel and Debi Weirick. Mark married Laura Cady on February 23rd, 1991, after meeting at McGonigles Restaurant and taking classes together at KVCC. 

Mark is someone who never met a stranger, living his whole life in Kalamazoo he seemed to know everyone, but even if he didn't know you that didn't last long after a joke and a laugh or a "let me help you with that" from him. He was someone who you could always call if you were in a jam, no matter where you were he would be there to help with a cooler full of drinks for when the job was done. 

Mark was an avid sports fan, following the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and Pistons, the Wolverines and his favorite WMU Bronco hockey team. But his favorite sporting events were his children's many activities. If he had the opportunity to coach he did it with enthusiasm and if not he could be heard yelling from the sidelines at many hockey, golf, softball, baseball, basketball and figure skating events. As his children aged out of youth sports he was still there to support at slow pitch softball games, the golf course and during home renovations, always there to offer advice, a joke and a helping hand. 

Mark is survived by his wife of 33 years, Laura Weirick, his four children, Christin (Raymond) Scarff, Nicholas (Dorie) Weirick, Daniel Weirick, Claire Weirick and many cousins, nieces, nephews and downtown Kalamazoo friends who we know will continue to live out his legacy. Mark's greatest joy was being with and helping his family, he was the best Dad, husband, uncle, cousin and friend and he will be missed tremendously. 

A celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo (212 S Park st.) on Saturday, September 21st. Visitation from 11:00-12:00 and then a service at 12:00. Followed by an opportunity to raise a toast to Mark at one of his local hangouts, the Greentop Tavern around 1:00. Please come by and have a "Mark Weirick" cocktail and share memories of the life that this great man lived.
