Martha Irene Bowen

Martha Irene Bowen of Vicksburg, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior in the morning, on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the age of 83. She was born on Monday, November 6, 1939, in Pontiac, MI to Albert Norman and Martha Elizabeth Hawkins.

Martha graduated from Spring Arbor High School in 1957. She married William David Bowen on August 24, of the same year. They lived in Rhodes, MI for a few years before moving to Midland, Michigan where they raised their 4 children. After starting a family, Martha attended Delta College and received an associate degree in interior design. She primarily was a homemaker but worked as a seamstress and interior designer for a few years. Martha enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, playing games and selflessly hosting many people over the years. One of the fondest memories for grandchildren and great grandchildren are the many elaborate tea parties that were had. Martha was an active member of the Nazarene Church, first at Midland Community and most recently of Chapman Memorial. Martha always had a kind and generous spirit, and she will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.

Martha is preceded in her passing by her husband, William (Bill) Bowen, daughter, Yvonne Biggar, and daughter-in-law, Kristin Bowen.

Left to cherish Martha’s memory are her children: son-in-law Jonathan Biggar, Debra & Steven Reader, William A. Bowen, and Yalonda & J. Mitchell Combs; grandchildren: Rebecca (Nick), Allison (Rob), Gretchen (Andrew), Sara (Mike), Adam (Shayna), Jack Renee, Mandy, Emily (Conor), Abigail (Michael), Tim, Jake, and Miguella; and 13 great-grandchildren with the 14^th expected in October 2023. 

In accordance with the family’s wishes, a public funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, 7520 East U Avenue, Vicksburg, MI 49097. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. and last until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at Midland Memorial Gardens, Midland, MI.

Memorials made in Martha’s memory may be directed to Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, The Gideons International, or Indian Lake Nazarene Camp.
