Martha Jane VandeLinde

Martha J. VandeLinde of Portage, MI passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the age of 82. She was born on January 20, 1940, in Mt. Morris, MI the daughter of John and Irma (Johnson) Crooks.

She graduated from Mattawan High School in 1958, following graduation, she attended Nursing School at Westshore Community College and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse all around the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids areas. 

She will be fondly remembered for her love for her family and the times they spent together. She loved to travel with her husband: Gil. Marti was an amazing seamstress and handmade all of the wedding dresses for her daughters and daughter-in-laws. She was a great cook and baker known for “being able to make chicken dinner out of a greasy rag”.

Marti is preceded in her passing by her husband: Gillis VandeLinde.

Left to cherish Marti’s loving memory are her children: Kelly Shafer, John Crawford, Marcie Weathers, Trinda (Chris) Riddle, and Jim “Jimmer” (Tricia) Crawford; grandchildren: Alex, Danielle, Amber, Brianne, Paige, Mallorie, Nicholas, Zachary, Justin, and Jordan; and three great grandchildren.

In accordance with Marti’s wishes cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest with Gil at Portage Central Cemetery.
