Martin Joseph Wesaw Jr. (Sonny), age 70, of Plainwell, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2020. He was born in Watervliet, MI and raised in Hartford until moving to Grand Rapids in 1960. Sonny was a proud member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. He was preceded in death by parents Martin Sr. and Viola, siblings Jo Ellen, Lois, Daniel, Lawrence and Mary.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary Zita (Girginas), daughters Dena (Blake) Austin, Kristina, Zita (Josh) Meier, grandchildren, Sammy (Brad), Senequa, Derick, Curtis, Travis, Justin, Zachary, 8 great-grandchildren, siblings David, Jean, Carl (Kelly), Carolyn, Catherine, Sylvester, Elizabeth, Gregory, Teresa, sister-in-law Rose, several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Sonny was a fire protection designer for over 50 years. He was an avid U of M, Tigers and Lions fan. He enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, fishing, chess, cards and casinos. He had a great sense of humor and was well-known for his quick-wit, one-liners and his great love of music.
