Marvin Earl Anson

Marvin Earl Anson passed away peacefully on July 13, 2020 in Otsego. He was born on October 8, 1927 to Earl & Coral Anson. Visit with his family and friends on Sunday, July 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.at the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home; Marshall-Gren; 120 S. Woodham St. in Plainwell. A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, July 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Prairieville Cemetery in Prairieville Township. Marvin attended school at the North Pine Lake Schoolhouse and graduated from Delton Kellogg High School. He was a child of the depression so he learned to be frugal and developed resourceful traits he kept his entire life. Marvin lived in the North Pine Lake area his entire 92 years. He and his wife Martha built their house on Pine Lake #2 where he lived for 69 of those years. One of his favorite days was the day he retired from the print shop at KVP/Brown Company/Graphic Packaging after 41 years. For many years he & Martha went dancing. They both loved to dance. On most weekends they traveled to wherever their favorite music was playing. Some of their favorite places were The Prairie Schooner, Bayview Gardens, along with The VFW and the Moose Lodge in Portage. Between 1979-1990 he along with his late son in-law Dan Kniss and the DNR reared & released over 78 thousand Northern Pike into Pine Lake. He was also a dedicated advocate for establishing and maintaining a high lake level limit on Pine Lake. His dream was to see no resident have a flooding problem on Pine Lake. This was something he thought about to the very end of his life. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening. He enjoyed and shared many of his peaches, apples, grapes, strawberries, tomatoes, and sweet corn with family, friends and neighbors. He even went through a beautification phase when he planted large areas with flowers along Island View Drive. With all his skills and willingness to be a do-it- yourselfer both of his daughters were surprised as adults to learn that Dad didn't know how to do Everything! They also know they are blessed to have had the experience of spending Summer vacations in a tent on a pontoon boat for a week at a time on The Saint Mary's River fishing for Northern Pike! Marvin was always willing to lend a hand and will be remembered in his neighborhood for putting along on his tractor. Many people also made a special trip to his garage when the news got out he was a skilled Heliarc welder. He enriched the lives of everyone that knew him and will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his daughters: Marla (Dan) Boss and Terese LePert; His sister, Joyce Earle; grandsons: Curt (Miriabel) Kniss, Corey (Christine) Kniss; great grandsons: Daniel Kniss and Marc Kniss; special friend Eleanor Snider as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, best friend and dancing partner Joan Detzler; son in-law Dan Kniss; brother in-law Kenneth Earle.
