Mary Jean Bullock, age 80, of Portage, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2011. Jean was born May 18, 1930, in Detroit, the only child of Walter and Irene (Skroder) Ward. She grew up in Greenville, Michigan. Jean graduated from Western Michigan University in 1952 with a degree in Political Science, and received a master's degree in Political Science in 1966 from the University of Michigan and she taught Political Science at Western Michigan University for 6 years and impacted hundreds of students. She had a lifelong interest in politics and current events, and was always willing to express her opinions on the state of current events. She was a lifetime member of the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Party. She loved traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with friends and family, and she was active in the Portage Senior Center and participated in numerous events. From 1954 through 1965 she was the hostess for the families of Scouters at Boy Scout Camp Rota-Kiwan in Texas Township, where met with and entertained hundreds of scouting families and made many lifelong friends. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roger "Budge" Bullock in January of 2007. She is survived by her two children, Roger Bullock Jr. and his wife Patricia, of Munith, MI, and Pam Bullock of Chicago, IL, one grandchild Daisha (Bullock) Perry and her husband John Perry, of Potterville MI and two great-grandchildren Ariena and John Roger Perry. Memorial service arrangements will be announced and posted early next week at; www.avinkcremation.com .In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The American Heart Association.
