Mary Cousins

December 20, 1934 — January 5, 2025

Climax, MI

Mary Cousins, of Climax, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on December 20, 1934, Mary lived a life enriched by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit that touched the lives of everyone around her.

Mary graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1953, and her journey soon led her to a fulfilling career with the Upjohn Company, where she worked as a line worker for over 20 years. Her work ethic was a testament to her strong-willed nature.

On June 21, 1953, she married the love of her life, James Cousins. Together, they celebrated an extraordinary 71 years of marriage, a beacon of love and partnership that has inspired all who knew them. Mary was proud of her family; she and James had six children. They cherish the values and traditions instilled in them by their remarkable mother.

Mary's warmth extended beyond her immediate family. She was known for her kindness and generosity, qualities that opened her home and heart to all who crossed her path. A talented baker, she delighted in creating scrumptious desserts which brought comfort and joy to family's gatherings.

In her younger years, Mary found joy in bowling and golfing. She and Jim explored various golf courses around Michigan. She loved to travel, creating lasting memories and experiences that she would share with her family. She and Jim once drove to Alaska and also multiple trips to Canada.

As a dedicated grandmother, Mary embraced her role with love and pride, nurturing each grandchild with the same affection and warmth she had shown her own children. Her legacy of strength, love, and generosity lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her spirit remains alive in the cherished memories she created and the profound impact she made on the lives of her family and friends. Mary will be deeply missed, but her essence will continue to inspire and guide those she loved throughout their lives.

Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years, James; five children: Sindy (Michael) Quigley, of Grand Rapids; Sandy (Ron) Blair, of Fulton; Shaun (Dave) Rapp, of Kalamazoo; Scott Cousins, of Kalamazoo; and Steve (Michele Deptula) Cousins, of IL; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived one Brother: William Henderson, of Leonidas; one sister: Pat Smith, of Sturgis and numerous nieces and nephews.
