Mary Elizabeth Pyle was born April 24th, 1926 in Lansing Michigan. She left us on September 5, 2015 surrounded by family.
Mary was the oldest of 6 children born to Merle Wilburn Pyle and Elizabeth Lucille (Hollabaugh) Pyle. She was preceded in death by sister, Nancy Gwynne and Mary's partner of over 50 years; Patsy Spahr. She is survived by sisters Delores (Lowell) Rutherford, Phyllis (John) Heidenreich, Ruth Loga and brother Jack (Brenda) Pyle and her faithful long time cat companion, Carly.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; many of whom were with her for a wonderful day on the 4th and as she passed peacefully on the 5th. The 4th was a day filled with stories, memories and much laughter amid the tears. It was also a day for a Frosty and one last beer.
In 1940 she was in the first class to graduate from the new Lakeview Highland High School, in Battle Creek.
Mary loved bowling, fishing and sports. She was a huge Tiger's fan and, after moving to Phoenix more than 30 years ago, the Phoenix Mercury woman's basketball team became a real love. She became a great poker player, loving to visit casinos and winning Texas Hold 'Em tournaments in various places in AZ.
She retired from Post General Food after more than 30 years of service as an executive secretary. She then devoted more of her time to her artwork and pottery being known as Potter Pyle.
In recent years she spent her winters in Phoenix and summers in Battle Creek with sister Ruth Loga and spending time with family and friends. Her wonderful smile and amazing sense of humor will always be remembered.
We'd like to thank the wonderful staff at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for their care and support during her hospitalization.
