Mary found peace in Heaven on December 10, 2011, after receiving care from her family and the nursing angels and staff at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born on April 10, 1923, in Camden, MI, and was the second child to Zelotes and Ula (Rogers) Swift. Mary graduated Business College and worked for the Hillsdale Prosecuting Attorney and Oldsmobile where she met and married the love of her life Richard C. Steele. They were united in marriage on September 25, 1946. This year the Steele's celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Mary lived a full life enjoying family, friends, church, volunteering and found happiness in gardening, playing cards, cooking, and watching the birds and butterflies in their yard. Preceding Mary in death are her parents, and son Larry Steele. Surviving is her adoring husband Richard of Vicksburg. Three loving children; son Edward & Ann of Wausau, WI, son James of Vicksburg and daughter Laurie & Scott Wilson of Kalamazoo. Four wonderful grandchildren Amy Steele of St. Paul, MN, Michael & Lisa Steele of Wausau, WI, Aaron Wilson of Traverse City, MI and Adam Wilson of Brattleboro, VT. and one precious great-granddaughter Julia Vivianna Steele of Wausau, WI. Also, surviving is her loving sister Maxine (100 yrs) & Burr Bowman of Hillsdale, MI. and not to forget Mary's darling dog Lucy. Friends are invited to join the family for Visitation and Memorial Service at the Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South St., Kalamazoo on Tuesday, December 27th. Visitation from 10:00-11:00a.m. Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Please join the family for a light meal at the church after the service. Private interment will take place on a later date at Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing, MI. The family request that expressions of sympathy be in contributions to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
