Maude Ann Hess

Maude Ann Hess, of Portage passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2020 at the age of 73. Maude was born on September 14, 1946 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was the daughter of OK and Margaret (Anderson) Wiswell. While going to Portage Public Schools she met the love of her life, Ford Hess. They married on August 31, 1963. Together they raised four children. For over 20 years she worked for Candlewick Apartments. She loved her weekend trips for 50 years to South Haven and enjoyed seeing Michigan Lighthouses. In her spare time, she spent time in her flower garden and sewed and quilted. Her Christmas Hams were a family favorite. Maude will be remembered by all that knew her for her caregiving and selfless nature. She had a heart of gold and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Maude is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ford; four children: Robin (Randy) Simmons, of Scotts; Karen (Jon) Martin, of Galesburg; Jody Hess, of Portage; and Bret Hess, of Portage; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her four siblings: Lenett Graham, of Portage; Butch (Donna) Wiswell, of Lawton; Billy (Wendy) Wiswell, of Almena; Ricky Wiswell, of Kalamazoo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
