I love you neither with my heart nor with my mind. My heart might stop. My mind can forget. I love you with my soul. My soul never stops or forgets. - Rumi
Michael Labus entered this world on July 8, 1955, holding kindness in one hand and focused determination in the other. With both in hand, Mike added a vision. He created, in partnership with his beloved wife of 38-years, Nancy, and life-long friend, Craig, eight restaurants proudly serving Kalamazoo and neighboring communities.
Playing basketball at Northwood University, Mike actively enjoyed sharing sports with his children. From basketball, baseball, football, track, hockey, and lacrosse, Mike traveled far and near to show his love. He supported his sons in all walks of life and encouraged them to follow their passions.
A heart already filled to the rim with pride for his sons Alex, Nick, and Austin, Mike's heart overflowed with love when he became a father to his daughter-in-law Annie on January 20, 2018.
On February 11, 2018, after using that same fierce determination to maximize his time with those he held most dear, Mike left this life. A man of quiet strength and equally few words, he once again gave his kindness to those he loved best. His gift to his family was being able to share these last weeks and speaking from the depths of a place in which no words are required. There is no greater sound than that of hearts speaking unconditional love, no greater beauty than being fully present among all who represent home.
A quiet, kind, determined heart has left this life peacefully knowing his four beautiful children will continue to leave a positive mark on this world. Per Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will take place February 15, 2018. In lieu of flowers, his family has established the Michael Labus Memorial Fund at 1st Source Bank.
