Holes (Crosby), Mildred Irene 11/6/1922 - 8/8/2017 Portage Born November 1922 raised in Gobles, MI. Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and nurse. Proud wife of a U.S. Marine in WWII, she served her country stateside in the Cadet Corps of nurses. She purchased their first and only home after the war while her husband was in the hospital with t.b. Creative and artistic, she excelled at arts and crafts such as knitting and ceramics and also enjoyed the occasional cribbage match or UNO tournament held on one of their many trips to the U.P. cabin or lake house in Vicksburg. She loved nature and the outdoors as evidenced by her support of the National Wildlife Fund, World Wildlife Fund, and PBS among others. She also donated for support to local police and fire dept. A truly caring person with a wry personality, she was always supportive and offered her home and vacation properties for all to enjoy and share. Though she worked full-time well into her 60s (and part-time on call for a few more years) she was always available and supportive when needed and using tough love when necessary. A true matriarch, she helped guide the next generations toward success, by leading by example and nurturing their dreams. She will be greatly missed.
