Mildred Irene Walker (Boss) of Plainwell, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 24th, 2019. Born on August 18th, 1931, she had just celebrated her 88th birthday surrounded by family. She was known as "Millie", "Mom", "Grams" or "Grandma", or just simply "Walker" by those who loved her.
Millie was the daughter of Dewey and Helen (Thompson) Barber. She was the sixth of eight children and spoke fondly of her childhood. She was born and raised in Plainwell, Michigan where she met Chester "Chet" Walker. They married in 1948 when Millie was only 16 years old. Together they had five wonderful children; Helen, Deb, Terri, Nancy, and Brian. Millie was a homemaker and spent her time caring for her children and had a house that could pass a white glove inspection. Chet and Millie took pride in running Plainwell's first ever ambulance company and Millie would often times be the "dispatcher" answering calls.
In her younger years, Millie enjoyed winters in Florida, riding bicycles, walking, and playing cards. So it was no surprise that Millie took companionship in Jay Boss many years after Chet's passing in 1986. Jay and Millie married in 1999 and together they spent many great years until Jay's passing in 2005.
Anyone who knew Millie well, knew that she LOVED babies. Over the years, she was able to love on 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren! She was blessed with a large family who all loved her very much.
Millie is survived by her sisters Doris Schuiteboer and Beatrice Gauthier, her children Helen Leonard, Deborah Deaton (Bernard), Theresa Pearson, Nancy Doster (Kim), and Brian Walker (Arline), and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gerald and Lawrence Barber, sisters Lillian Stull, Lucille Woodhams, Marjorie Gilligan, and Beverly Gauthier, husbands Chester Walker and Jay Boss and grandson Brandon Deaton.
A celebration of life collation will be held on September 27th, 2019 at Elks Lodge #1711 - Otsego, 113 S. Farmer St, Otsego, at 7pm. A private graveside service will take place to bury Millie's ashes at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell.
