Mitchell McCarten

Mitch McCarten, age 72, passed away on Friday, March 29th, 2024. Born in Plainwell on June 8th, 1951, he was the son of Mick and Grace McCarten.

Mitch enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and marksmanship. In his early years, he traveled to Alaska, where he commercially fished on the Yukon River before returning to Michigan. The Upper Peninsula was Mitch’s favorite place to be. Early in his life, he built two cabins in Eckerman, MI, where he spent his free time thereafter. He then enjoyed his career as a self-employed licensed residential contractor. 

He was a man that enjoyed many friendships both above and below the bridge, and his love for the wilderness was undeniable.

Mitch is survived by his daughter Sarah McCarten, long-time girlfriend Joanne Zeluff, Al & Linda Blanchard, Penni Vandervort, and dog Ginger.

A celebration of life will be held at the Otsego VFW Post 3030 at 124 N Farmer Street on Saturday, April 6th, from 4:00-7:00 PM.
