Rutherford, Nancy Lee
Nancy passed away on July 21, 2012 after a long and valiant battle with lung cancer. Nancy was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always put her family first. Nancy was born on June 21, 1934 in Kalamazoo to Vernon and Glenora (Garlick) Eldridge. She moved to Augusta as a child and remained in the Galesburg-Augusta area all her life. In 1952 Nancy graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School. She worked as a secretary for Ingersoll's. On August 21, 1954, Nancy married her high school sweetheart Donald Rutherford, who survives. After the birth of their first child, Nancy devoted herself to her family. She was well known for her cooking, and hosted many pool parties for her children and their friends. Nancy was an avid reader and lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. She enjoyed her weekly "coffee with the ladies." She will especially be remembered for her cheerful personality and optimism. After retirement, Nancy and Don enjoyed many happy years at their cottage in Moran, MI, which Nancy considered her second home. Also surviving Nancy are her four children: Dana (Emily) Rutherford, David Rutherford, Mary (Mark) Scott, and Amy (Brock) Thompson; her grandchildren Paul (Katie) Scott, John Scott, Jennifer Snyder, Sarah Reck, Mary Monaghan, Maximillian Thompson, and Madison Thompson. Nancy had two great-grandchildren, Logan and Savannah Scott. Also surviving Nancy are her siblings Glen (Barb) Eldridge, David (Ellen) Eldridge, Sharon Bowers (Sid Smith), and Larry (Tari) Eldridge; brothers in law Marion (Marilyn) Rutherford and Tim Snape; sister in law Barbara Eldridge, special niece Tonya Eldridge, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends Eleanor Bell and Jeanne Fontaine. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Jeannine Eldridge, Joyce Minnis, Marianne Smith, and Margie Snape. In accordance with Nancy's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Borgess Visiting Nurses and Hospice, Kairos Dwelling, or the charity of your choice.
