We want to celebrate and remember the life of Norma Irene Day, who left us on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Norma’s story began in Kalamazoo on June 7, 1932, as the beloved daughter of Norman Ralph McMains and Ruth (Ennis) McMains. She met and married Kenneth E. Day on October 7, 1950, and together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.
Norma’s work life was marked by dedication and adaptability. She spent many years at Clark’s Pharmacy in Parchment before moving on to Gibson Guitar Co., where she contributed her talents until the company left the Kalamazoo area. Even in retirement, Norma’s spirit remained vibrant as she took on a new role at St. Julian Wine Co., showcasing her unwavering commitment and zest for life.
Her heart was deeply invested in her family and the home they shared on the lake. Together with her sister, who lived next door, Norma created a haven of warmth and joy, hosting countless family gatherings that will be fondly remembered. Her love for her home and working in her yard is where she found fulfillment, and she delighted in playing cards with those she loved.
Norma was a fun-loving, outgoing, and spirited individual who embraced life with enthusiasm. Her faith in the Lord and her devotion to her church family were cornerstones of her life, providing her with strength and joy.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her children: Kenneth Day Jr. of Portage, Terry Day of Homestead, FL, and Deborah (Steve) Wolthuis of Vicksburg. Her family includes her cherished grandchildren: Corey Day, Casey (Neal) Raburn, Devin Day, Terry Day Jr., Kelli (Fred) Day-Rodriguez, Katrina Thelen, Heather (Ken) Flach, and Adam (Brenda) Wolthuis. Norma was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Luke Raburn, Kody (Eliza) Day, Terry III, Joseph and George Day, Connor, Noah and Grayson Thelen, Brayden and Elias Hoopingarner, Leo Flach, Logan and Blake Wolthuis.
Norma was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Kenneth Day Sr., their infant daughter, Theresa Marie, and her sisters Pauline Davidson, Ethel Willard, and Sandra McGuire, as well as an infant granddaughter, Erin Theresa.
Though we will miss Norma, we are comforted by the rich tapestry of her life—a life marked by love, joy, and unwavering faith. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In honor of Norma’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to Careline Hospice or Calvary Community Church, reflecting the compassion and spirit she so beautifully embodied.
