August 7, 1941 — November 27, 2024

Portage, MI

Norman Earl Marble, Sr., of Portage formerly of Augusta, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on August 7, 1941, in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of Harry and Jennie (Shugars) Marble. Norman grew up in the Comstock area and attended Comstock Public Schools. Norman’s journey through life was marked by hard work, a sense of community, and a commitment to his family.

Norman's career was rooted in the family tradition, beginning with seven years at Allied Papermill, which made him the second generation there. He later dedicated over 34 years to General Motors Company as a Die Setter, where his commitment and work ethic were evident as he worked tirelessly from morning until close. His technical skills and craftsmanship shone not only in his profession but also in his personal projects.

An avid car enthusiast, Norman found great joy in working on vehicles and honing his creative talents through crafting shadow boxes. His ability to make something out of nothing reflected his innovative spirit. Beyond his love for cars, he had a passion for gardening, relishing the nurturing of his plants amidst the beautiful landscape of Augusta, MI. He was a regular at the local Augusta Custer VFW Post 7956, where his social nature and great sense of humor endeared him to many.

Norman was also an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing for walleye on the Big Lakes of the Great Lakes and found pleasure in hunting. His culinary skills extended to smoking food, making many gatherings flavorful and memorable. In his earlier years, he was an active bowler on a GM bowling league, often sharing laughs and camaraderie with teammates at Continental Alley's.

Family was of utmost importance to Norman. He was especially proud of his marriage to Sally, which flourished for 43 loving years after they exchanged vows on August 21, 1981. His gentle spirit and generous heart allowed him to deeply spoil his grandchildren, whose smiles brought him great joy.

Norman Earl Marble, Sr.'s legacy will be remembered through his unwavering dedication to family, his knack for creativity, and his joyful, prankster personality. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will continue to inspire and bring smiles to those who loved him.
