Olga Ruth White passed away peacefully at Alamo Nursing Home on Friday, August 10, 2012. She was born Feb. 13, 1917 in Brigus, NFLD, Canada, the second of four daughters to Alexander and Hazel (Spooner) Way. She grew up in St. John's, NFLD and started working at a young age to help her family.
Wanting to see the world, Ruth joined the Canadian Woman's Army Corp. during WWII.
Ruth moved to Michigan with her daughter, Gloria, in 1954, when she married Warren McKinstry. Together they had a daughter, Kathryn.
Ruth ran the perforation machine at Master Craft Corp., when she met and married Marshall E. White. Among other things they enjoyed traveling, going home to Newfoundland many times and around the United States. They shared almost 40 years together until Marshall passed away last year.
Ruth was an adventurous lady, with a great sense of humor who enjoyed being with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, playing cards and bowling.
Besides her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Luedecking, and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Wesley) Teall, 6 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-great-Granddaughter, and her family in NFLD.
Memorial services will be held Monday, August 20, 2012, at 1 pm at the Portage Chapel Hill Methodist Church, on Oakland Dr. Interment will follow at Mt. Everest Cemetery.
