Patricia “Pat” Kasdorf, 90, passed away June 26, 2021 at home with family. She was born November 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Lucius and Mildred (Lester) Boynton. She earned a Master's Degree from Western Michigan University. She went on to a career as a preschool and early elementary teacher. She spent the last 16 years of her career as a children's librarian. She continued to volunteer as librarian at Zion Lutheran Church.
On August 20, 1960, she and Carlton Kasdorf married at Zion Lutheran. Together, they were dedicated to their children and grandchildren learning and experiencing as many things as possible. Annual camping trips were a favorite. The Spring trip to Grand Haven left the grand children with years of cherished memories.
Pat treasured family and friends. Each Monday she would write elderly relatives. Family histories were kept. Carl had a beautiful garden. They liked to take zinneas to friends who'd moved to assisted living or take produce to friends. When lifelong friends moved away, they called each other weekly.
Pat was especially proud of a trip she and her friend, Julia, took in 1959, pup-tenting around Alaska. She and Carl liked lighthouses and traveled around Michigan and the East Coast to their locations. She loved the beach with its driftwood and interesting stones.
Pat loved books. She was an active member of her local Friends of the Library, the Michigan Library Association and the Church and Synagogue Library Association. She played piano, enjoyed organ music, supported the Bach choirs Carl sang in and added an extra voice to a community choir when needed.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton. Also, by her siblings, Barbara Robertshaw and John Boynton.
After 60 years of marriage, Pat and Carl left a legacy of love. She leaves behind two children, Connie (Gary) Cota, Nicolas Kasdorf, six grandchildren, a great granddaughter, a niece and extended family. She will be missed!
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran's Children's Ministry or to Otsego District Library Children's Services.
A service will be held July 13 at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church with a time of visitation 1 hour before.
