Patricia Nyblom (Brockman) passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2012 at Bronson Hospital in Portage, MI, but her life's legacy will live on in the hearts of her many loved ones.
"She literally worked at the two things she loved most until the very end,"says her daughter Sheryl. "She was at the hospital making sure her clients work was getting processed and trying to get home to take care of her grand kids Brok and Sloane."
Putting others before herself and working hard are two characteristics that defined Pat. From the time she was born on March 25th, 1940 in Blue Island, Il she grew into a kind and independent young woman who always put others first and took pride in her work.
As a young woman, Pat studied at the University of Illinois, worked in downtown Chicago and loved to spend a Saturday night with Skip and Mike watching the lastest horror movie on T.V.. Later Pat met and married Russ Nyblom and moved to Arizona before her daughter Sheryl was two years old. Although she and had another child, Eric, and lived in Phoenix for eleven years, she longed to be back in the midwest with her family. She eventually packed up the kids in her green station wagon and took a long cross country trip to move to Michigan where her sister Karen and Susan and her parents were living.
As a single mom and bookkeeper Pat worked hard her whole life. She ran a small and successful business on her own. She considered her clients as family and many of them were working with her for almost 25 years. She was very creative and loved to write, paint and make crafts.
Her greatest treasure was her family. When her grandchildren Brok and Sloane were born she blossomed into a devoted and loving grandmother. Whether she was making doll clothes for Sloane or encouraging Brok to take his first steps, she was in her happiest moments. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved to be surrounded by family. Pat always made time for others, whether to visit with a niece or nephew, shop with her sister or help with a project, she focused on people not things.
Many have said that she was the kindest and least judgemental person they knew. Pat never spoke a bad word about anyone and always sought to understand all sides of an issue. She was diplomatic, offered kind and loving advice and only saw the good in others.
Pat was a gentle soul but fiercely independent and walked with a quiet strength. She was working and worrying about others up to the very last moments of her life. Although she will be greatly missed, her family and friends feel honored to have known and loved such a wonderful person.
Pat wished to be cremated and to have tree with her remains planted in her favorite park in Portage, Michigan where she spent many days with her grandchildren. The family plans to honor her memory in this way. In addition, she asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to her grandchildrens education fund. Donations may me sent to : Patricia Nyblom Memorial Fund at 8333 Charwood Drive, Portage, MI 49024.
When plans for the memorial service are finalized it will be posted at the website www.avinkcremation.com where all are welcome to read and post their own remembrances.
God saw you getting weary
he did what he thought best:
He put his arms around you
And said, "Come and rest."
He opened up His golden gates
On that heartbreaking day,
and with His arms around you
You gently slipped away.
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone:
A part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
