Permelia Ann Hulse

Permelia (Pam) Molineaux Hulse passed away peacefully yesterday. 2/12/1934-10/27/15. She grew up in Michigan, the oldest of six children of Grace and Forrest Molineaux, Vicksburg, Michigan. She obtained a BA from Michigan State University and a JD from Boalt Hall, University of California, Berkeley. Pam graduated from law school and passed the Bar Exams at a time when it was so very unusual for a woman that the local newspaper (Berkeley, California) ran an article with her picture. Pam was a Deputy Public Defender for Contra Costa County, Calif. for decades, was in private practice, and for many years worked for the State Judicial Council and Chief Justice Rose Bird. She survived the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake which devastated the Bay Area and injured nearly 4,000. It took her over 12 hours to reach her home from work in downtown S.F. to Pt. Richmond that evening She also battled (successfully!) cancer several times, and it did not even slow her down. Before several botched knee surgeries and a broken ankle she was a very strong woman who traveled by air from San Fransisco, Ca. to Kalamazoo, Mich carrying a couple of 50lbs suitcases full of gifts for her grandchildren. Although she had great difficulty walking, she never lost her independence and lived in her own home until the end. Her brilliance, dedication, and skill in her profession cannot be challenged. Pam is survived by a son , Casey (Darla) Hulse and three grandchildren: Rianna (Richard) Jacobs, Robert Hulse and Jessica (Ben) MacGregor as well as two great grandchildren, Kaylen and Isabella MacGregor, sisters. She is predeceased by a beloved son, Robert Michael and survived by five siblings: Stuart, Deborah, Susan and Jeanne Molineaux and Sharon Rutz. She is also survived by several nephews. All remain .... Casey and Darla Hulse and grandchildren's dedication to Pam's happiness and well-being during her later years is recognized, appreciated and saluted by everyone, including Pam. She is sorely missed.
