Raymond L. LeZotte

Vicksburg, MI

Raymond L. LeZotte, of Vicksburg passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on December 17, 1937, in Ludington, MI. He was the son of John and Gladys (Shilander) LeZotte. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.

 A proud graduate of State High, he graduated with the Class of 1955. He then proudly served four years in the United Air Force, where he was stationed stateside. Following his military service, he attended Western Michigan University, earning his bachelor’s degree. It was during his time at Western Michigan that he met the love of his life, Martha Ann Reid, forging a bond that would last a lifetime. They were united in marriage on November 23, 1968, a union that brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

 Raymond dedicated over 47 years of his career to the Office of Personnel Management for the government, reflecting his unwavering commitment to public service. Beyond his professional achievements, Raymond was known for his jovial personality. He was described as honest, kind, and generous, always bringing warmth and laughter into the lives of those around him. 

He had a particular passion for sports, taking delight in watching University of Michigan athletics and the Detroit professional sports teams. Raymond stayed active in sports most of his life. He played in recreation softball for close to 50 years up into his 80’s. He was a pitcher in his younger years, and a base coach later in life. He traveled to St. George, Utah several times to play in the Senior Olympic Games and was incredibly proud of this accomplishment. 

Raymond also cherished travel, creating beautiful memories through many cruises to warm destinations and experiencing the awe of a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Alaska.

 Family was of utmost importance to Raymond, and he took immense pride in his loved ones. His legacy will be carried on by all who were lucky enough to know him—his memory ingrained in the hearts and stories of family and friends alike.

 As we remember Raymond L. LeZotte, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to those he held dear. His spirit will continue to inspire us all.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; one daughter: Karen (Steve) Raffenaud, of Portage; two grandchildren: Evan and Addison Raffenaud; three sisters: Helen Faulkner, of TX; Patsy (Ray) Hand, of Kalamazoo; and Nancy LeZotte, of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his son: James Raymond LeZotte and his parents: John and Gladys LeZotte. 

Raymond has been cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.
