He loved working in his yard.. He was like a kid when he was on his tractor and wouldn't come inside until dinner was ready. He always kept a perfect lawn. He loved tinkering in his garage, building or fixing something. His favorite thing to do in his later years was take golf cart rides with his great granddaughter Bella, she drove of course..
He worked at Eaton for 34 years before "retiring" and driving parts for Ridge & Kramer.
Dick was also a lifetime member of the Kalamazoo County Masonic Lodge.
He dutifully served in the Air Force from 1951-52 before coming home and marrying his love, JoAnn.
He loved spending time with his family. In 1967, Dick and Jo built a home on 5th street where they raised their children in Mattawan. His daughter Sandy and her husband Dave eventually built a home next door where they raised Dicks granddaughters Rachael and Ashley. Watching them grow up next door, he was a huge part of their lives. He was the master of taking on and off training wheels, an expert cleaning up skinned knees, and a constant spectator at all of their sports events.
He drove Oldsmobiles almost his whole life & always kept an immaculate vehicle. He drove to Florida almost every year to visit his son Steve, his wife Kathy and his grandson Stephen. Dick and Jo also loved meeting Steve & Kathy in Gatlinburg Tennessee to spend time in the Smokies.
Dick preferred not to have a public service. The family thanks you for your kind wishes and in lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Mi.
